history

1999

Our turnover is EUR 425 million. We process 1.4 million tonnes of potatoes in our eight production plants. Our European market share is 20%, and we have a 10% world market share. Aviko enters into an alliance with French potato processors VICO. This considerably extends our range of specialities. The AVIKO brand is thus launched onto the French retail market.\

1998
Aviko's turnover is nearly NLG 900 million and it now employs about 1,400 people. Aviko takes over potato grading and trading company Korteweg B.V. Korteweg is a perfect link between the growers and Aviko. We start building a new, state-of-the-art factory in Rain am Lech in Germany.
1996

Aviko acquires ISO NEN-EN-ISO 9001 certification. This gives Aviko's quality system official status. We build our own combined heat and power station with a 10 Megawatt output. We open new sales offices in Spain and South America. Aviko processes 1,300,000 tonnes of potatoes.
1995

Aviko spreads its wings and opens a new factory in the USA: Aviko USA. The vigorous developments in the central and eastern European market require us to reinforce our local sales support. We open a new sales office in the Czech Republic.
1994

An advance Aviko office is set up in Italy. We open a new sales office there. Aviko takes a 50% interest in a joint venture to build a new factory in Lebork in Poland. We achieve the magic threshold of 1,000,000 tonnes of processed potatoes.
1993

An investment programme worth EUR 22 million culminates in the opening of what is at this time the biggest fresh French fries production line in the world. The incentive for this is our leading role in the growing European fresh French fries market. This year we process 870,000 tonnes of potatoes.
1992

Specialities are becoming increasingly important in the marketplace. Our fifth factory is built solely for producing specialities. This gives Aviko the opportunity to enhance its product range with very high-value products. This year we process 780,000 tonnes of potatoes.
1991

Aviko takes over British production company Idwal Fisher and sets up a joint venture in Turkey with Star King, Istanbul. Processing figures increase this year as well: to 740,000 tonnes of potatoes.
1990
Aviko takes over Dutch production company Castel Frites. The Berlin wall falls and Aviko is immediately active in central and eastern Europe. A joint venture, Aviko Rt., Vc., is set up near Budapest in Hungary. Aviko processes 720,000 tonnes of potatoes this year.
1989

Aviko underlines its attitude to quality and innovative strength by building extensive quality control facilities and a research and development lab. We also take over German production company Dr. Von Schönfeldt. Aviko processes 675,000 tonnes of potatoes.
1986

Because of our growth, capacity has to be boosted yet again. We build our fourth factory in Steenderen. This production line can produce both fresh and frozen French fries. This year we process 380,000 tonnes of potatoes.
1985

Aviko is awarded the King William I Environment and Energy plaque for its pioneering role in the area of environmentally friendly energy for production. This trophy proves that Aviko is striving to operate in harmony with man and the environment. Aviko processes 325,000 tonnes of potatoes.
1983

Aviko gets a firm foothold outside the Netherlands too, when it takes over German production company GKV. GKV produces fresh French fries. Aviko also continues to expand its activities in the UK by opening a sales office there. It is now processing about 300,000 tonnes of potatoes.
1980

The third factory, to produce rösti specialities, is built. Aviko takes over Lomm-based fresh French fries producer De Fritesspecialist. Aviko's processed tonnage has now leapt to 240,000 tonnes of potatoes. Aviko reinforces its leading position in the fresh French fries market.
1978

The introduction of TV advertising is an important milestone in Aviko's history. We thus take our first tentative steps in the expansion of the AVIKO A-brand. This year we process 153,000 tonnes of potatoes.
1974

A second production line – this time for rösti - is installed in the frozen French fries factory. Thus Aviko's first product innovation becomes a reality: we introduce rösti as a brand-new product. A patent on the production process is applied for. Aviko is now processing 85,000 tonnes of potatoes.
1973

A second factory, for producing frozen French fries, is built in Steenderen. It is not yet possible to keep French fries fresh long enough for long-distance transportation, but with the advent of frozen French fries, Aviko can now access even the more distant European markets. Aviko's first sales office outside the Netherlands opens in France. Aviko is now processing 75,000 tonnes of potatoes.
1970

The Dutch farmers' co-operative Cebeco Handelsraad acquires a controlling interest in Aviko. This provides Aviko with the resources to invest in a successful future. By this time, Aviko is processing 40,000 tonnes of potatoes and has outgrown its Hoog Keppel location. It moves to Steenderen, where its head office is still located today.
1964

The first automatic production line is installed. Prior to this the process was predominantly a manual one.
