Food at any cost

As we enter the festive season where we share good tidings with our colleagues and loved ones, spare a thought for the millions of people around the world that go to sleep on an empty stomach.

Consumers and businesses globally are facing unprecedented times of economic hardship, social innovation and technological disruption, compounded by the 2012/13's volatile global agricultural environment. There have been price rises in wheat, corn, oil, and potatoes to name a few, nevertheless, most of us, if not all, have 3 meals a day on our table. I'm sure that most of you like me are thankful for this daily provision.

In this festive month, I would like for all of us to take that one moment in our busy lives and remember the people around the world who struggle for food on a daily basis. Yes, we have seen higher food costs, but at least we have food to eat, unlike the millions that continue to struggle.

As another year closes, I would like to thank everyone who has worked with Aviko and the wider food industry for the progress we have made. Moving into 2013, I'm sure that whatever challenges lie ahead, the food industry will do all it can to make food more sustainable and accessible to billions around the world.
