After a dry and sunny summer, Western Europe experienced a wet autumn and harvesting period. Some potato crops benefitted from these wet circumstances and we saw increased growth curves at the end of the field season. Crop yields and tuber lengths (far below average at the start of the harvesting season) recovered and have produced good quality potatoes. Here's to a successful crop in 2014!
Potato Crop Update
According to the last published estimates, the EU-5 countries harvested a total of 23.3 million tons of consumption potatoes. The figures for 2012, 2011 and 2010 are respectively: 22.8, 26.6 and 24.2 million tons, so the available volumes are higher than last year.
